INBOX [un: jupitersgrace]text / audio / video / actionHey, this is Jason Grace. If I'm not fighting for my life I'll get back to you soon.art creditcode credit
( Javert's not interested in pleasantries, so he's just going to get right to the point, )
Will you be ready to teach combat training next week?
( He's been impressed with what he's seen of Jason so far, so the decision to make him an instructor is a fairly easy one. He handled himself well during the town hall meeting, and setting up the game of capture the flag. It's earned Javert's respect. )
We will begin on the second of the month, the day after the ferry arrives. I have already spoken to Monsieur Rastus about procuring us some swords, and there are knives at the general store. Do you have any interest in teaching armed combat, or would you only prefer to only teach unarmed?
( He did say at the meeting that he was proficient in weaponry. He didn't mention swords specifically, so Javert just has to ask to make certain. )
We will meet at the gymnasium. Though I have taken Monsieur Kol's suggestion under advisement, and will take our training out of doors on occasion.
We'll have swords soon? [There's relief mixed with a bit of excitement. It would probably be nowhere NEAR as nice as the imperial gold sword he had lost, but it was something.] I can teach either, though I'd definitely be more comfortable teaching others how to use a sword since I had to do that a lot back home with my cohort.
[Before he'd been promoted to praetor anyway. Then his job had become too big to regularly act as a sword or spear trainer, still he'd had enough experience with it that it would be easy to fall back into.]
Then that is what I'll have you do. I have someone else who willing to teach unarmed combat, as well, but it does no harm to have options.
( In case someone gets hurt, or is otherwise incapacitated. He's relieved to hear that Jason is willing to step in where he's needed. That's just another admirable trait that he has. )
You may keep one of the swords, if you wish. I do not know what sort of condition they may be in, but you may consider it a thank you for what you've done, and for your help.
I lost my sword before I got here...so it will be nice to have a sword again. Thank you very much. I will make sure to earn that sword then and train anyone interested up well.
[It's strange, to feel so grateful for a sword he hasn't even seen yet. Nothing so terrible as to warrant a sword has happened yet and unlike others he HAS abilities to use in a fight...but regardless he'd still feel better with something sharp. He is definitely determined to protect Beacon just as he would New Rome or Camp Half-Blood.]
None right now. We'll see if that changes after our first class
[Well that's random. Jason blinks at the message.]
It's the name of the Roman camp I grew up at...and also my father's name.
[He'd always figured if he wasn't on the docks or present if a fellow demigod arrived they might see the username on the network and realize what it meant.]
[His father said it was to avoid the ire of the other gods and especially Juno, even 'giving' Juno naming rights and saying he was her Champion...but those things hardly seemed to be favors.]
I've honestly been surprised by how many people haven't questioned me on this. But I guess when you're in a place like this it's easier to accept things like Rome and the Greek/Roman gods still being around out there.
Octavian was the augur at camp. He got signs from the gods by reading the entrails of stuffed animals. As far as I know, no one's taken up the position at camp yet.
[He has to briefly wonder if somehow Octavian might have wound up here when he died. If he could drive the Romans and Greek to war, he could definitely have spurred an event that would result in a reset. He'd almost feel bad if that was the case, since that would be two times Octavian has screwed up very badly.]
[Jason kind of stares at his table for a second. What kind of question is THIS? Who is this asking and why?]
Depends on who is telling me and what they are telling me to do. I'm not just going to blindly follow orders, but I understand basic directions.
[How does he put that in a scaled number? Actually that's probably further evidence of him NOT doing what he's told. He'll just shake his head and hit send.]
As a hypothetical let's presume that the person telling you is me, someone you don't know. And these instructions are coming while you're in the woods with no idea where you're going. And the instructions themselves include things like- go on without us, or don't attack that.
[How is it he deals with gods, nymphs, monsters, Titans, and everything else under the mythological sun and THIS is the thing that gives him pause. Seriously. Who IS this person and what ARE they questions?]
Hypothetical.
Right.
These things are usually NOT hypothetical and I'm sensing an ulterior motive.
[But what? What's the angle here? Why is he being asked this? Was anyone else being asked this? There was no one around to confirm, so he sends a second reply.]
Also, you didn't define the scale. What's the 1 and what's the 10?
And let's say: 1 = I am an anarchist who doesn't believe in rules, directions, laws, or consequences 10 = I am very good at it and don't think for myself
[Though that answer could change based on other factors -- moving along that scale he'd just been given. He wasn't a 100% rule follower, as his time at Camp Jupiter showed, but he also couldn't exactly bring himself to say "screw all the rules" because of the same thing. He did what he needed to do and usually it was for the benefit of the group, not an individual and certainly not himself.]
[He knew this wasn't hypothetical. Gods above. Okay, so he has a stranger on the other end of the tablet, asking him to join him in the woods. Jason figures he KNOWS most of the arrivals to Beacon, but at the same time only as much as one can know a group of complete strangers in a month -- some of whom only joined a few days ago. He's also pretty sure he's powerful enough to handle most of the problems, but he also doesn't feel like he should say 'yes' so readily to a rather ominous offer of meeting someone in the woods.]
I'm pretty sure this is what all those PSAs on television were warning me about.
Are you going to offer me candy or a puppy next?
[He's joking...mostly.]
honestly I've been shouting about this whole mess of a thread
